In this indepth tutorial, I show you my method for going from a realistic eye to a more stylized one that you might see in comics, cartoons or manga and anime.

reminds me of that spongebob episode where he draws the realistic face
first then erases the details to make it a circle, did the animators do
this on purpose?
“Now maybe this person is high” lol
Very nice work

I learnt of so many new things in this video my head hurt and I had to take
a break (I might just be bad though). The stuff he explained about the
stylized/anime eyes are the kind you’d struggle to find in self study – you
won’t figure it out through imitation and most books, even good ones, skip
past it. It makes sense, and it’ll help immensely with developing your own
style.
Your tutorials helped me a lot. I was having trouble trying to figure out
how to wrap the eyelids around the eyeball, but then figured out if I draw
where I intend the iris and pupil to point, it’s a lot easier for me to
figure out how to wrap the skin around! I still have trouble visualizing
how the eyeball fits into the eyesocket and rests in the skull however,
especially when the head is turned. I try to imagine it and my brain tries
to go “No, fuck you, not doing that”
The eyes have basically been the best thing I’ve ever been able to draw and
now that I saw this video… I understood that I made mistakes and that I
really didn’t know what I’ve been doing. I’m kinda disappointed but I’m
more excited because I can move on! So thank you really, really much! <3
i really like the mixing realistic and anime/manga style personally i think
it looks amazing!
Wow thank you so much Sycra. I watched this video and my quality of eyes
just shot up.They are still not great, but the before and after watching
this video are night and day!
You honestly deserve more subs , I wish I had watched your videos first
instead of Mark Crilley’s. He’s a great artist but his video are just NOT
helpful…
Best eye tutorial ever! I love all of Sycra’s tutorials because he tries to
teach the basics first and then opens up endless possibilities for people
at all levels. Bravo! He’s really an awesome teacher!
I just love how detailed you explain those things. o:
what’s with the manatee about 33 min in?
@43:50 kinda looks like Samus Aran
I was always a fan of looking at books to know where to place things. I
love the approach of going from real to stylist drawing. Really helps you
be free in your own style.

I think Anime means drawn cartoon, so It’s the same thing as cartoons, It
just has a different stile from japan.
the direction of the straw bending in water is wrong. just saying
you are awesome, thanks 😀
Great Stuff Sir!
dude , you are freaking awesome :D
Was that a manatee?
Rules of anime: stretch the eyes to 3/4s of the head and shrink everything
else. At least, that’s what I see whenever I look at anime.
Lovely, your video.
SUPER glad for this video, dude – Proko’s vid on the eye got me started,
but I was having a lot of trouble breaking it down into a sketchier,
looser, more comic-y style -drawing along with this really helped with
that, so many thanks.
WTF was that a seal.
It’s lovely how open you are to alternative situations and circumstances.
can you do a tutorial on how to install len white color wheel for photoshop
cc (2014)
this guy knows what he is doing.
i totally agree with what you said about Manga style, Look for
inspirations! But do not copy! just let it be a guide but not totally tho,
to create your own
Thank you, this helped my sketching tremendously!
someones probably already said this but the lens is called the Cornea and
the bending of light through water is called Diffraction but dude you are
an incredible teacher
you can explain in such a great way, that even me (from italy) can
understand you perfectly!
it is a pleasure to listen to you!
Peace
Thank you for sharing this. :)
Best drawing lessons by far.
what progrom are you using? it looks like photoshop, but a little
different.
what’s with all the random stupid images in these videos like the manatee
and the guys’ butt painted like a pumpkin?
photoshop or manga studio?
i already have photoshop but is it worth upgrading to manga studio, or is
it just the same thing?
The “Anime/Manga” you did with the hair, was actually REALLY good! I like
drawing in a semi-Anime/Manga style, and what you did with the face with
the hair, was spot on to what I try and draw. Good job and thanks for the
help! :D
Actually… its anime for animation & manga for comic, so its just japanese
style of one of those, not anime or manga, but japanese style.
Nice video though, keep it up…
I feel like however he is drawing the eyes they seem western
thank you you are helping me with my college work so much aha you are a
boss
32:30 it’s professor Oak!
I have learned so much, thanks to you! so helpful, you have my respect!
Did anyone else notice the random dolphin around 33 minutes?
😛 My eye has the lower eyelid slightly more pronounced. Like how you drew
it.
Can you do a tutorial on how to set up the software interface like yours?
I am new to your channel, but I wanted to take the time to thank you for
putting up these videos. I have drawn all of my life but never perfected
it… it’s always been a hit and miss with me. Your videos, I feel speak
to me directly. I hope you keep putting them up… thanks for your time &
effort ♥
Drawing is all about expressing your thoughts and feelings through visual
art , it is all abou bending reality…actually relity is overrated ,
because fantasy fuels creativity and creativity inspires us to imagine
things…each one of us has a unique way of thinking and imagining things .
This makes our styles unique from one another and it makes us different .
Absolutely wonderful. I have learned sooo much from this. :)
