So- Katy and the man DIDN’T break up. when Katy messed up his painting, the
man drove off to get some space, and ended up dying. the reason Katy and
the future Katy are crying is because he died, and it was “her fault”.
The future Katy drives to where her old boyfriend died and held his hand as
a memory.
