I’ve never drawn like this before… I was always taught to make the head
shape first and not do details until I have all the minor shapes in.. this
way seems a little harder but it was fun to watch nonetheless
Attention budding artists:
There are a lot of good tips here, but it is NOT, I repeat and cannot
repeat enough NOT, advisable to just pick a detail and work your way
backwards. Mr Wei obviously knows what he’s doing, but if you don’t, always
always ALWAYS do a sketch before you go drawing details. Drawing like this
is how your finished faces end up warped and distorted because you didn’t
lay out any foundation first. Picture it like building a house, but instead
of starting with blueprints and a bunch of support beams, you go straight
for the feng shui of the living room. Not recommended. Not unless you have
your game down to a science, that is.
One interesting thing to note: Back when I could not draw, my drawing
skills required a LOT of practice I was drawing in this exact manner.
Calculating the distance, between objects, using basic geometry to draw
what I saw. I did this until I started learning to draw, because I didn’t
know the basics and copying something that I saw was a lot easier like
this. But this makes you see the image of what you are trying to draw as a
2D object. Just connect the distances between the points and you are done,
finishing it by fixing the image. To actually visualise in 3D the object
you are working on and put it down on the paper requires discipline and
some knowledge, while this method does not.
Did you know that the reason we see her has beautiful is because her face
is very symetrical? Humans look for someone symetrical to mate with because
we believe that our offspring will have similar features (this is not
conciously of course).
hi Wei i firstly didn’t like Ur channel but when i saw a couple videos i
liked the way U explain and talk Ur really a true artist thank U for the
video it was helpful :)
Hey Wei, thankyou for uploading this video! I really struggle with drawing
human faces and your technique really helped me, I saw dramatic
improvements on my first attempt! Keep up the good work! :)
i hope you know that person and you didnt get it off the web, its kinda
scary the way you are describing that person (pretty, beautiful) also how
old are you cuz that could make it even creepier then it already is
Thanks for posting. It’s very helpful to improve my technique. I usually
use my eyes
to measure the distance and proportion on the face and draw very quick. I
don’t think
to draw exactly the same is important. That is why it is art.
seems like a good method for duplicating pictures but what about drawing
from imagination?. unfortunatly i do not think this method will work for my
purposes but i still think you are a very good drawer.
If you were to draw her from real life (like she would sit in front of you,
living and moving), how would you go about that? Because, this technique
makes sense when drawing from photo reference, but not reall when drawing
from real life, or at least not to me. My way would be, to get the basic
shapes down (first rough scetch, then facial shape) and then to add the
detail, but maybe you have an alternate way of going about it which is more
accurate?
Very informative. It was along the lines of what my art teacher taught me
in high school. I liked how you used the angles much easier than drawing an
oval.
I have a question.
I know from your videos that I can use the angles for placing things like
lining up the rib cage with the elbow, that kind of stuff.
How close the drawing has to be compared to the original to be realistic or
believable?

How to draw a pretty face. Great, now an you show us how to draw an ugly
one?
Here are some awesome and easy steps on how to draw perfectly
Step 1 – Draw a circle
Step 2 – Add detail
Step 3 – You’re done.
Do this and you will be talented in secs.
Love the way you use measurements and angles. Very unorthodox
unfortunately, but very affective. I like it.

A good way to learn where you’re making mistakes in your drawing is by
holding it up to a mirror. Distorted features show up
good advice^^
What program did you use for this portrait?

That’s exactly what my thought process is when drawing from a photo, but
still not good enough.
